THERMAL FAQ

Is Thermal compatible with other 60% PCBs?

Yes, to a degree.

Thermal uses an internal daughterboard PCB for the USB-C. To use another PCB in Thermal will require either a) the PCB has a JST SH connector footprint with the right pinout, such as WT60-A, WT60-B, WT60-D, Zeal60 rev 4, or b) soldering the cable to points on the PCB. Also, there is only clearance for if a USB-C connector is on the PCB between Esc/1, there is not enough clearance for USB mini-B (this could in theory be desoldered).

If you have a wilba.tech PCB which has a JST SH connector footprint for daughterboards, a JST SH connector can be included in your Thermal order. Contact support if you would like one.

Using other PCBs is considered a “custom mod” and Foundry does not guarantee Thermal functionality with any other PCB other than wilba.tech PCBs.

Is Thermal compatible with “standard” 60% plates for tray cases?

No, Thermal plates extend to the outside of the case. There are also no standoffs for mounting PCB to the case bottom.

Can I make my own plate for Thermal to use with another PCB, such as one with ISO or a different bottom row? Or perhaps make a plate in another material, or without leaf springs?

Yes. Thermal plate design files will be made available after pre-order phase ends and production begins. We want to ensure that anyone making custom plates will be using the exact dimensions that were used for production.

Plate design files for a few specific layouts like standard ISO and ANSI will be made available.

Using custom made plates is considered a “custom mod” and Foundry does not guarantee Thermal functionality with any other plate other than those produced by Foundry.

Can I use my own custom-built QMK firmware with Thermal?

Yes.

Is there a Discord server to discuss Thermal?
